Halloween Open House in Highland Creek

October 27th, 2015

As I wait for noon to hurry up and arrive, I dwell upon the open house we have planned for Halloween at 7237 Gallery Pointe Lane. That’s right, on October 31st from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Justin has kindly offered his services as host, and will be providing treats for the kidlets, as well as the adults. This amazing townhome has been customized by a master craftsman, and is still priced right in line with its comparable counterparts. Signature Ridge is the newly-completed portion of Highland Creek, a sought-after neighborhood in the north Charlotte area. Check out how awesome it is to live in Highland Creek:

Open House in Powderhorn on November 7th

October 21st, 2015

This month, instead of just one featured property, we have several stunners for you to peruse. Powderhorn Mountain will be having a multiple property open house on the 7th of November from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Powderhorn is a beautiful gated community, nestled in the bosom of the Blue Ridge mountains. The 7th is your chance to come see this awesome neighborhood for yourself. The Chaney Group loves this place so much, that our fearless leader calls it her home.

Get Those Bulbs Planted!

October 13th, 2015

We’re staying outside again this week to bring you some bulb action before it gets too cold to get them in the ground for spring. Two members of our group (Justin and Sarah) were Endless Landscapes in their previous work life, and want to share some tips with you. Bulbs are a great way to get amazing spring color, and help the dreariness of winter fade a little faster.

The High Country folks are probably going to need to have them in the ground fairly soon, as you want them planted prior to the first hard freeze. Charlotte- you guys can wait awhile longer, because we may still see warmer temps, and should have until Thanksgiving to get them planted. A good rule of thumb for planting depth on bulbs is to double the size of the bulb itself. If your bulb is around six inches from tip to roots, put him a good foot under the surface. Something else to help get the most blooms: resist the urge to cut them back after the flowers fade. If you can wait it out, and leave the greens until they yellow and fall over on their own, you give the plant a longer time to photosynthesize. This will help it store energy, and result in better blooms the following spring.

One of our favorites to use is crocus. They come in a variety of colors, and are one of the first to wake up from their winter slumber. These guys are little, so they are a great one to plant en masse.

Another one that wakes up early is the daffodil. Also available in a wide variety of blooms, these are a good staple to have in the garden.

You can’t talk about bulbs without mentioning tulips. Probably the most well-known, these offer one of the widest varieties of color and bloom choices. A note to our Charlotte people- we normally don’t get cold enough for these guys, so they are one you will likely have to treat as an annual here.

For fragrance in the garden, you can’t go wrong with hyacinth. Not only are their bloom clusters beautiful, but you will have the smell of spring wafting through your yard.

One of my personal favorites. and a native to NC, is the dwarf-crested iris. This lovely little guy also spreads well, so he will populate your garden with spring color over time.

A special thanks to our friend, and mentor, Doreen Williams, for fact-checking this for me. Go put some pretty in your garden, and we will see you next Tuesday!

Time to Check Out the Fall Colors

October 6th, 2015

It is officially October, and the High Country is starting to show her glory. We have compiled some sites for you to make the most of Nature’s spectacular fall presentation. Hopefully, we will not have the rain to contend with at the level of the past couple of weeks, and will be able to actually get out and enjoy  what the mountains have to offer in the way of colorful fall foliage.

Leaf 1

High Country Host offers all kinds of  places to look for color updates, and locations to best enjoy the leaves this time of year.

Leaf 2

Watauga Roads offers a handy map to let you know expected peak times, and advice on what colors you are likely to see. They predict that the best showing will be over the next two weeks, so you may need to tell Aunt Nelly that you’re sorry about Sunday dinner, and head out to the Parkway, instead.

Leaf 3

The High Country’s very own ASU Department of Biology also keeps their site updated weekly with helpful leaf-related information.

With all these places to look, there is no reason (apologies to Aunt Nelly) that you shouldn’t make time to enjoy the beautiful area in which we live before winter starts, and we have nothing but sticks and snow to feast our eyes upon. Go check out the foliage, and we will see you next Tuesday!

Some Things you May Not Know About Donald Trump

September 15th, 2015

Happy Tuesday! Sarah, admin for the group, here. It’s my first blog day, and I have been tasked with writing about Donald Trump. In trying to keep this blog a fun (and hopefully sometimes informative) place for you to spend part of your internet time, there will not be any discussion on his politics, unfiltered opinions, or hair. Instead, I  have searched the recesses of the internet to bring you some lesser-known tidbits about the real estate mogul. I have done my best to check for accuracy, but it is the internet. That being said, here is what I found:

  • WWE-

Even if you, like me, were never a fan of wrestling, you may be vaguely aware of the “Battle of the Billionaires”, where Donald Trump, and Vince McMahon (long-time owner of many things in the wrestling entertainment industry, just in case you were wondering) bet on wrestlers to represent them in the ring. Trump won, and got to assist in shaving McMahon’s head. It remains one of their most popular storylines today.

Another popular storyline, that is listed as truth in plenty of places on the web, was Trump buying Monday Night RAW for a bit, then selling it back to McMahon. It was just to generate buzz, and never really happened. What did really happen, though, was Trump being inducted into the Celebrity Wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

  • Other Accolades-

In addition to the WWE induction, Trump also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as two Emmy nods for his work in television. His work in cinema was not as well received, as he garnered a Razzie for his role in the 1990 film Ghosts Can’t Do It. He is also credited with being an accomplished writer, as he has 50 books to his name since his first was published in 1987.

  • Fails-

You read that right. Besides his film career, Trump has had several ventures that tanked. Even though he is a teetotaler, he attempted to launch his own vodka in 2006, with the slogan “Success Distilled”. It wasn’t. Neither was “Trump: The Game” released in 2004. Like the vodka, it had a very short shelf life before it was pulled from the market. Even though he is probably best-known for his excellence in all things business, he has had four corporate bankruptcy filings over the years. He also purchased the New Jersey Generals football team in 1983, and owned them until the USFL folded after the 1985 season.

I suppose I should close this with some profound quote about overcoming failure leading to success, but that’s why the internet graced us with Pinterest. Thanks for joining me, and I’ll see you next Tuesday!

Welcome!

Nice to Meet You!

Nice to Meet You!

Welcome to the Chaney Group! We are six licensed brokers for Keller Williams that work as a team, both in Charlotte, and the High Country, to make the dream of home ownership a reality. While we do love real estate, we are also a group with varying backgrounds and interests, and would like for this blog to be a reflection of our diverse lives outside of the office. We are going to try to get a new post up weekly, so please stay tuned!
