Some Things you May Not Know About Donald Trump

Happy Tuesday! Sarah, admin for the group, here. It’s my first blog day, and I have been tasked with writing about Donald Trump. In trying to keep this blog a fun (and hopefully sometimes informative) place for you to spend part of your internet time, there will not be any discussion on his politics, unfiltered opinions, or hair. Instead, I  have searched the recesses of the internet to bring you some lesser-known tidbits about the real estate mogul. I have done my best to check for accuracy, but it is the internet. That being said, here is what I found:

  • WWE-

Even if you, like me, were never a fan of wrestling, you may be vaguely aware of the “Battle of the Billionaires”, where Donald Trump, and Vince McMahon (long-time owner of many things in the wrestling entertainment industry, just in case you were wondering) bet on wrestlers to represent them in the ring. Trump won, and got to assist in shaving McMahon’s head. It remains one of their most popular storylines today.

Another popular storyline, that is listed as truth in plenty of places on the web, was Trump buying Monday Night RAW for a bit, then selling it back to McMahon. It was just to generate buzz, and never really happened. What did really happen, though, was Trump being inducted into the Celebrity Wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

  • Other Accolades-

In addition to the WWE induction, Trump also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as two Emmy nods for his work in television. His work in cinema was not as well received, as he garnered a Razzie for his role in the 1990 film Ghosts Can’t Do It. He is also credited with being an accomplished writer, as he has 50 books to his name since his first was published in 1987.

  • Fails-

You read that right. Besides his film career, Trump has had several ventures that tanked. Even though he is a teetotaler, he attempted to launch his own vodka in 2006, with the slogan “Success Distilled”. It wasn’t. Neither was “Trump: The Game” released in 2004. Like the vodka, it had a very short shelf life before it was pulled from the market. Even though he is probably best-known for his excellence in all things business, he has had four corporate bankruptcy filings over the years. He also purchased the New Jersey Generals football team in 1983, and owned them until the USFL folded after the 1985 season.

I suppose I should close this with some profound quote about overcoming failure leading to success, but that’s why the internet graced us with Pinterest. Thanks for joining me, and I’ll see you next Tuesday!
