As we are now at the halfway point of December, the holidays (and gift deadlines) loom ever closer. I have successfully managed to get three presents so far. For me, that’s actually pretty good, considering that I normally do my shopping on the 24th. Since I still have so much left to do, I thought it would be helpful to my fellow procrastinators to compile a list of local shops in both of our areas that have awesomely unique gifts for everyone left on your list. Especially if, like me, your list still has almost everyone left on it. Shopping locally supports the economy in your immediate area, lets you avoid having to pay wait for shipping, and allows you to find something more thoughtful than this. Everybody wins!
Let’s start with the High Country:
Right in Downtown Boone, we have Anna Banana’s. This is great place to find all things
fashion-related for anyone. You also have the bonus of being able to consign your own
stuff, making it possible to get some great gifts, and not spend nearly as much. Woohoo!
Also right in Downtown are The Shoppes at Farmers Hardware. This place has gifts in pretty much any category, and many of them are handmade by local artists.
If you have someone more adventurous on your list, Footsloggers and Rock Dimensions have got you covered. Rock climbing is amazing, and has become a family tradition for us whenever my sister comes to the High Country. (That’s my son from our last climb in July.) If climbing an actual rock face is a little too intimidating, the rock wall at Footsloggers is also a lot of fun, and they have all manner of climbing/outdoor gear gifts available.

Ok, Charlotte area peeps, your turn:
I know, not technically in Charlotte, but it is just right outside Meck County, and a very short trip from 85. Much like the Shoppes at Farmers above, this place offers a wide variety of gifts. Anybody on your list that loves all things antique/vintage will have no shortage of gift options here.
Located in actual Charlotte is PaperSkyscraper. This is the place to go if you need gifts for someone with eclectic taste, or a sense of humor.
If you have anyone on your list outside of the area, like in VA (where I will be next week… again), both of these make fantastic gifts for the beer enthusiast. Jam Session (NoDa) and Copper (OMB) are my personal favorites, and will be making the trip to VA with me.
Speaking of NoDa… go here for many more local gifting options.
Get to it, so you aren’t stuck in Wal-Mart on the 24th, trying to not buy the same gifts you did last year. Not that I am speaking from experience, or anything. Happy shopping, and see you next Tuesday! (Maybe… depends on how much drinking celebrating my family does.)
