Put the Giving In

Since we talked about the thanks (for alcohol) portion of the upcoming holiday last week, our boss lady thought it essential to mention the giving part. This time of year it is especially important to consider those in need, as the cold temps and constant reminders of family can be really difficult for people that have to do without the things, and support systems, that so many of us take for granted. There are many ways and places that you can help, here are just a few ideas for you to get with the giving.

Since we at The Chaney Group are all Keller Williams agents, I would be remiss to not mention KW Cares. This is a non-profit that helps members of the KW family that are faced with hardships.

Expanding beyond the KW family, both the High Country and Charlotte have some ways to reach out:

Hospitality House is a crisis agency that helps address the issue of homelessness in Watauga and surrounding counties. Share the Warmth has partnered with Ashe County Coalition for the Homeless to collect and distribute coats and blankets, so those in need can make it through the brutal mountain winter.

Charlotte has the Crisis Assistance Ministry to help families in immediate financial need, and also provides counseling services to assist with future financial stability. The Dilworth Center has been making recovery possible for many families in our region, providing treatment, counseling, and after-care.

Going outside of NC, DAV assists those who served our country nationwide, while Responsible Charity and Doctors Without Borders help those in need on a global scale.

In case you’d like to check out more options, or verify where your money is going, Charity Navigator is a site that allows you to ensure you are giving intelligently. Thanks go to Travis, the CPA for half of our group, for providing that info. He’s awesome at what he does, and you can check out his skills here and here. With the holidays looming, it’s time to remember that we are all human, and that we all need a little extra love and care sometimes. Be thankful for what you do have, hug your boss/cousin/buddy, and take a little time for those without. See you next Tuesday!
