Boone

Boone, the heart of the High Country, is located two hours from Charlotte, Asheville, and Greensboro. Named after pioneer Daniel Boone, the town in the county seat for Watauga County, and the home of Appalachian State University. Boone, the most populated town in the High Country, is rich in history and culture. The Blair Farm, Daniel Boone Hotel, Jones House, John Smith Miller House, and US Post Office are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the birthplace of guitarist Michael Houser and Doc Watson was born in Deep Gap. Old Crow Medicine Show and Eric Church both have roots in Boone.
